YOUNG FRUSTRATED WITH DEFEAT DESPITE DEBUT GOAL

Summer signing Jake Young described his debut City goal as “bittersweet”, after the Bantams fell to a devastatingly late defeat away to Barrow at the SO Legal Stadium.

Substitute Young's strike pulled City level at 1-1 just after the hour mark, before a frantic final 10 minutes saw the hosts run out eventual 3-2 victors.

Despite defeat, the forward believes the Bantams can bounce back, and getting on the scoresheet - which they failed to do at home to Doncaster Rovers last weekend - can give the side confidence heading into the remainder of the campaign.

Young said: “It was a bittersweet moment for me. It was what I was dreaming of, getting off the mark on my debut, but ultimately it does not mean what we all want it to mean.

“Everyone is disappointed with how we finished the game. We will have a look at where it went wrong, bounce back and make sure it does not happen again.

“It was chaotic at times at the end. We have got to take a breath sometimes and calm it down. If we need to, as attackers, it is just about getting down and defending our goal.

“We have over 40 games now to put it right, which is a positive, but we know today was not good enough.”

On a personal level, the 21-year-old admitted he was pleased with the impact he made in the game, having been introduced as a substitute an hour in.

He added: “That is what I am there for, to come on and change the game when called upon. You have to be ready.

“We changed the game, but it was not quite enough. You just have to be prepared.

“Hopefully, in the disappointment, I have shown what I can do. Hopefully, I can give the supporters plenty more and it will be a better feeling next time.”
