IN-FORM COOK HUNGRY FOR FIRST LEAGUE WIN

Andy Cook believes competition for places is healthy in the Bantams’ push for their first league victory, ahead of tomorrow afternoon's visit of Newport County.

Cook, whose brace confirmed City’s place in the second round of the Carabao Cup in midweek believes the positive showing against Hull City can inspire he and his team-mates in their hunt for three points.

The striker said: “I took my chances on Tuesday and got the goals, so I am happy. Nobody likes not playing, but I just kept my head down and waited until the chance came, and I felt I took it against Hull.

“Me and Vadaine (Oliver) are supportive of each other. If the lads in front of you are doing well and the team is doing well, you are happy. Us playing well will push him along and push me along. It is all healthy competition.

“Tuesday night could have gone one of two ways, but we got the win so, hopefully, it can push to get three points on Saturday.”

City boss Mark Hughes made changes in the victory on Tuesday night, which saw the likes of Cook, Jake Young and Scott Banks come into the side.

Cook feels the Bantams' new-look squad is gelling well and is in a strong position to take all three points against the Exiles.

The frontman added: “I have enjoyed meeting the new lads, they have come in and done really well. We all get on and it is a good group.

“I fancy the Newport game being different to Doncaster and Hull. A different gameplan, perhaps. We will work on that on the pitch in training, and go out there and perform on Saturday.

“They will want to come here and put on a show. Teams are always wanting to play up to our stadium and fans, but we want to concentrate on ourselves and the way we are performing.

“Our first home game did not go our way, but we are looking forward to Saturday and hopefully getting our first win in the league.”
