Bradford City AFC is looking for volunteers to assist with outreach for ‘Bantams Safe Space’, the club’s ever-growing mental health supporters’ group.
Open to each and every City supporter, the group was launched in October 2021, to coincide with World Mental Health Day, and will now be named the Bantams Safe Space going forward while continuing to help those who require support.
It is hosted by City fan and former Mental Health Clinician and Associate Practitioner - and current Project Manager for Health - Robert Cranmer, who won the Bradford City Supporters' Board Unsung Hero award at the 2023 End of Season Dinner in May.
Since its launch, Robert has helped an average of over five individuals per month, referring a total of 116 patients with frequent contact within two hours of them reaching out, and continued counselling support.
Now, in order to ensure the important work can continue as effectively as possible, we are on the lookout for others to assist Robert and help positively impact the lives of those who reach out to this service.
Given the nature of the work being done, volunteers will be recruited solely based on competency of undertaking the role.
Robert Cranmer said: “To have seen the group grow to the point it is at now, where we are helping, on average, over five people per month, makes me very proud.
“The mental health supporters’ group started as an idea I pitched to the club almost two years ago, but to have reached the point where we need to recruit more people to help means it is more than serving its purpose, which is fantastic.
“We want to help as many people as possible, who feel they need it, and in order to do that, I am looking to add more people alongside me who can ensure we are able to offer the level of support we want to.
“As the group continues to grow, and more people are coming to us for help, we need to make sure we work as efficiently as possible. Renaming the group the Bantams Safe Space represents a huge move in having an official service provided by the club which provides a safe space for people to talk openly about their feelings, and seek the help they need.
“I am looking forward to speaking to more people, and growing the group over the months ahead, to continue the fantastic and important work we can do together.”
